I have loved to be creative for as long as I can remember.  I was born and raised on a beautiful farm in Iowa where wildlife and nature surrounded me.  My interest in art was nurtured by my parents.  I became a nurse, married, and raised three children who still reside in Iowa.  I have gone through several transitional periods, which reminded me of the importance of staying positive and optimistic.  This was often accomplished through my artwork.  I moved to Minnesota in 1988 and to Central New York in 1991.  It was then that my painting interests shifted to everything nautical - especially lighthouses, because of my affinity for the water - the Great Lakes and the ocean.  I retired from nursing in 1999 and focused completely on art.
When I'm creating art, I feel happy and peaceful.  I am grateful and humbled by any artistic talents I have received.  A quote by Georgia O'Keeffe comes to mind: "It belongs to me.  God told me if I painted it enough, I can have it."
Laura's work can be found in nine galleries, museums, and gift shops throughout central and northern New York state.  Works are also displayed at art festivals throughout the region.  Studio tours are available via appointment.
